Kerstin Perini, LPC

KerstinMy childhood years allowed for me to love all things outdoors. The opportunity to be outside and exercising led to a fascination with nature, the human body, and the relationship between a natural environment and increased mental health and psychological development. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology Health Sciences from Marymount University and enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Over time, the significant research on the relationship between physiological trauma, stress and emotional issues, inspired me to switch my major and focus in the field of psychotherapy. I received a master’s degree in professional counseling from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University and am currently enrolled in their Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology Degree Program. I continue to be influenced by the interrelationship of physiological problems and mental fatigue clinging to unresolved issues.

In addition to my work at Dodini Behavioral Health, I work at a hospital in Northern Virginia as a cancer care specialist doing counseling with patients getting treatment for a variety of cancers. It’s been my great privilege to walk with people going through all the stages of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare. I believe psychotherapy offers the best opportunity to treat the entire individual, restore mental clarity and increase a sense of well-being.

My clinical interests include counseling individuals, couples, and families experiencing a cancer diagnosis, chronic pain, grief, bereavement, phobia, anxiety, depression, relationship, or quality of life issues. Having two toddlers and working in the oncology field, I believe in helping others in a mindful, manageable, and realistic way to embrace life’s transitions.
